I have an older model (1998) F935 mower that I need to get in neutral, but its not obvious to me how to do this.

You have to find the transmission.

This is not easy to do unfortunately. If you're just moving it around the garage, put the drive wheels on dollys and roll it that way. When we tow these things, one person usually has to hold down the reliefs because they can pop back up while towing. I believe Peerless made them for Deere. Maybe someone can fact check on that to be sure. Below is a pic of a transmission removed from the machine that makes it a bit easier to see where the valves are located. One valve is for forward, and the other is for reverse, but make sure you push them both down when towing. The arrow is pointing towards the front of the machine to give you orientation. Good luck!

Appears to be access from under the seat area.

And yes it is a Peerless 2600-004 unit with hydro pump added. It is the hydro pump part that must be disengaged.
