Mower has only done 97 hours total time in service and it burning oil like crazy, i.e. chuffing like a steam train only the smoke is blue. Checked the engine breather system and couldn’t see any problem/blockage. It had the 25 and 50 hour oil change. Doesn‘t seem to have lost power.
Surely in shouldn’t need new rings and/or valve guides after such a short service life. Any ideas as to what may be ailing the machine.

Ahhh, The IPL is showing a Briggs OHV 330000 series. They are bad about blowing the head gasket between the cylinder and push rod galley. So I would think if the rocker cover was removed and leak down test performed you would find it leaking at the push rod galley. Another way tell this is to remove the breather tube at the air intake and see if oil is present.

If it is the head gasket then the new gasket will need the head torqued to 21 ft/lbs in three steps following the screw torque in the service manual. Also before installing the new head gasket make sure the head is not warped.
