I have a 11.5hp manual pull Swisher pull behind. Briggs. It will only run using carb spray. So I bought a brand new carb, installed all new fuel line, and that didn't change a thing. I still feel like this is a fuel issue. But I do see fuel filling the clear filter, and the carb bowl is always full when I check it. I've noticed that while I keep it running with carb spray, I don't see fuel moving through the filter. I'm not sure if it would be obvious or not. So pulling the rope fills the carb, but maybe nothing continues to pump it? I just don't know. What in the heck is happening??

Does this model have a solenoid on the carb ?
How long will it run on carb spray ?
I like to run them for about a minute by giving it regular short shots down the carb.

I can keep it running on carb spray forever. I watch the fuel filter to see if it looks like anything is moving, and it doesn't appear to be. There wasn't a solenoid on the original carb, but the new carb I ordered and installed has one. I like that I can drain the carb at the end of the season.

It is a 217802-4145-F1 for those don't have access to the serial number decoder.

It is because the solenoid needs to be powered when ever starting or running. And the fuel bowl without the solenoid was available at one time but Briggs no longer sells it. I was lucky enough to get three of them before were all sold out.

So try powering the solenoid directly to see that helps for troubleshooting purposes. Also you can remove the solenoid and install a M8-1.00 screw temporary.

So you were right, the new carb wasn't working until I yanked the solenoid. Now she FINALLY starts. She's got a bit of a stumble especially at lower idle. Pretty perfect at WOT.
