Greetings,

I have a HU775L mower that is in great shape...except for needing to replace a valve on the Briggs 775 EX engine :(

I have been considering repairing it, but with the number of free/cheap engines that show up on CL and FB, wondering if that is an easier route?

Are there any engines that specifically wouldn't work in this case? I know it is all down to drive shaft and mounting bolts, but just looking to narrow down.

For instance, someone has a 5 HP Suzuki GTS off a Toro that has a disintegrated deck, would that work?

Or is sticking to another Briggs or a GCV160 going to be easier?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Crankshaft diameter and length are the deciding factors on push mower engines. Staying with the same brand engine is easier due to possible control cable issues. The bail engine kill cable could be too short if the new engine has the kill system at a different location on the engine, or takes a different cable end.
