Hello all, I'm a new guy, and sure hope someone can assist me on this. I have a HRX217TDA. 2 weeks ago the propel speed slowed a lot nearing the end of my grass cutting. I was able to grab the clutch levers cable at the spring and give it a yank - and hold - to finish the job. It seemed so logical it was a cable adjustment needed. I did that and no change at all. I then replaced the belt and again no change. I notice the lever to engage the propel drive says "clutch" on it, but where is this "clutch"? It feels just like that - like the clutch is slipping, but I can only find the transmission assembly (20001-VH7-003) or the belt that relates to the drive system. Does this non-serviceable transmission cause a slipping clutch feel when it goes bad? There is no grinding at all.

Please advise - and it won't hurt my feelings if I overlooked something super obvious.

Thanks,

Hello all, I'm a new guy, and sure hope someone can assist me on this. I have a HRX217TDA.

In the troubleshooting section of the shop manual for "Mower does not move forward..." section, here's the list:

Drive clutch lever freeplay excessive (adjust cable)
Lever or cable damaged (replace cable)
Drive belt worn or damaged (replace belt)
Drive belt came off (inspect pulleys)
(Internal) Transmission malfunction (replace trans.)
Shift cable out of adjustment (adjust cable)
Shift cable damaged (replace cable)

You need to verify both the shift cable and clutch cable are fully moving the control arms on the top of the transmission. If not, check freeplay, loose connections, stretched cable(s), etc. If all these don't help, it is likely an internal fault inside the transmission. There are no service parts for it, and it must be replaced as a unit. The part number is 20001-VH7-001, list price $109.97.

Google any part number to find a Honda Dealer selling it online, or use this link to find a Honda Dealer in your area: Find A Honda Dealer

You may find a paper copy of the shop manual helpful, especially if you decide to R&R (remove and replace) the transmission. Honda sells paper copies on Amazon and eBay, free shipping and free updates for 3 years.

Well thanks TONS for the quick response - greatly appreciated, however it is NOT the news I wanted to hear. I verified all the items up to the transmission (because it is un-serviceable)and was hoping I missed something. I guess I'm ordering the transmission tonight.

Thanks again,

One more question Why does your part number end with "001" and the one I found ends "003"? Which one is it?
