How to Clean Oil Suction Gun

I bought this pump to extract oil out of the tranny of my truck. It's just this simple pump where you pull a handle and it sucks oil into the metal reservoir. I would love to know how to clean this so that I can change the oil on my small mowing equipment that has hard to reach places (i.e.: gear reduction oil on aerator).

An oil suction gun is OK for withdrawing small amounts of oil.
An oil withdrawal system with a storage container is recommended as the oil doesn't get into the vacuum pump, just the tube and the container. My system has a see thru container that is marked at 1 liter intervals up to 5 liters and I can see the amount that has been withdrawn. I then empty this container into 5 gallon jugs for future disposal.

to answer your ? it would be simple with just a little gas then use just a little fresh oil to pump through to get all the gas out thats how i clean my little vac system works good after 5 years an all i have done is clean it. not bad for 25$ at homedepots:laughing::thumbsup:

It isn't very big. The same size as a greas gun. So, I just suck a bit of fuel, push it out, suck clean oil in and push it out?

Why do you want to clean it ?
If you are just sucking out the old oil all that needs to be clean is the outside of the tube.
If you are going to use it to refill with clean oil then pull the gun apart , wipe it out with a kitchen towel or clean lint free cloth then wipe it a second time with a towel dampened with the oil you are going to refill the box with and you will be fine.
I qould avaid using fuel to clean out the gun because a lot of them use neoprene seals and they will turn to mush when exposed to modern fuel.
Kerrosene ( parrafin to some )or deisel would be far safer.

I forgot about that rubber gasket inside.

I want it clean because I sometimes use it to inject oil back in hard to reach places. Also, I get my tranny oil tested and the tests are very sensitive. Wouldn't want contaminants from the other time.

For about $15.00 you can purchase a second gun. Use one to remove and the second to fill. After a few times of use, the second gun will have paid for itself in labor and material savings. If you would have to clean one, it would be the refill one, to add a different fluid and a clean gun would be much easier to clean.
