Honda HRR 216 won't start after running with closed fuel valve

I cut the lawn once this spring. Then I changed the oil. During the process I closed the fuel valve.

Today I started to cut the grass but left the fuel valve closed. After a minute or so, it shut down since it wasn't getting gas. I opened the valve but it still wouldn't start. It makes a sound like it is thinking about starting.

I replaced the spark plug and that had no effect. The gas filter is fine. I am considering replacing the fuel filter. It seems odd that it would work fine for the first cut and then the second cut until the fuel valve closure shut it down, but then it wouldn't start.

Any thoughts? Solutions? Thanks.

I would see if it will run on starter fluid. It's possible that you did engine damage such as bending a rod running out of gas at full throttle. I've had it happen.

Debris caught in fuel line, valve or clogged filter.
Disconnect fuel line from carb side and see if fuel flows freely.
Have a can handy to catch fuel.

Have you tried to start it since it cooled down?

fresh gas with quality brand fuel treatment, i personally use high test, fresh air check air filter, spark- get plug tester at any auto parts store, compression-with spark plug removed place thumb over spark plug hole while pulling starter cord you should feel pressure, this is old fashioned method, compression gauge works accurately. let us know what you find, thanks. by using a quality brand fuel treatment with fresh gas you will help eliminate buildup of material in fuel system. also check fuel on -off valve for being stopped up.
