Hello, I got a 5 hp chipper. Older model with a 130212 Briggs engine. This has a 1" shaft x 2 7/8" so replacement with a generic motor will be a little hard. The 130212 after start was blowing back through carb and gas tank really bad so I pulled piston, I noticed the rings were really close in the gaps, compression really weak, so I pulled piston and valves and am trying to find a .005 over set to repair. I cannot find a proper part number. any ideas where I can find an old parts diagram with part numbers for this engine?? thanks max

need the type number, only 100+ version of this engine but you will probably be out of luck of getting oem rings that are .005 over as Briggs went to STD and .020 over on many of the engines several years ago. On top that they are NLA a lot of the parts now since they file bankruptcy in 2020-21.

Thank you for replying, I am going to try 298892 and see when they arrive if they may work. Problem here is I am rural, I have a 5hp enigine with a 1" shaft x 2-7/8" long I have a 5hp honda with standard 3/4 shaftr and have ordered a 3/4-1" sleeve just to get the machine working, In taking apart the old briggs I see flood damage and water everywhere and have also ordered a new breather and full gasket set, I will reseat valves when I get all the parts. I still have old ring set and had motor running for a few seconds ( with generic new carb) until back pressure thru carb shut it down. (massive back pressure) so I will do what I can to rebuild. I didn't think this machine had a 1" shaft engine. I to be honest in over 50 years, have never seen one, Most I have are 5/8 or 3/4 or larger on much bigger hp engines. I'll keep playing with it. max

Now you know why the spec numbers are important as Briggs did have different engine setup per the customer's specs. They may even used a different piston.
