Gxv340 will not crank

My GXV340 Honda mower engine just makes a click noise when I press the starter button. The battery is new. I have tried shorting the terminals under the starter solenoid but I do not get any result, not even a click or spark.
The motor turns when the recoil rope is pulled, so the engine is not seized.
I have just replaced the press start button with a 50 amp push button & cleaned?? all connections on wiring.
What have I missed?

Possibly a faulty battery. Just because a battery has 12 volts doesn't mean it is good. A better with 12 volts no load can drop to 0 volts with a load.

If you have a volt meter. Connect it to the battery terminals and check battery voltage, and while still connected try to start the engine and see what the voltage drops to.
