Greetings, We rescued a GT5000 after it had sat for years. We replaced the fuel pump and Carburetor and all the fuel lines, it had a black tar like substance thru out and black chucks of stuff in the fuel tank. It was running great and everything else check out fine. The other day I went out to the shop and tried to start it and the battery was dead so I charged it and it started and runs great. I noticed the mower deck switch had been left on so pushed it off. Now when I engage the deck the engine quits. Any ideas? safety switch, deck solenoid? Other than that everything work fine.

Have you tested the safety switches? I'd check them all. You can use an ohm meter to do this. Lots of youtube video's on exactly how to check them.

Thanks for the quick reply, you were right as when I pulled the gas tank I didn't get the seat switch connector on tight and it had pulled out a little, resecured and life is good Thanks
