Hello once again. I have developed a leak on my left drive of my 52" freedom z mower. It it right below the drive at 2 bolts that hold a small plate in place. Has anyone had this plate off? Is there an O ring or gasket that needs to be replaced? It only has 275 hours on it now.

Currently I'm keeping an eye on the oil level, will investigate more once mowing season is over. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

The local scag dealer recently removed that plate from my neighbors 4 yr. old freedom z and installed a cast iron plate. the original plate was aluminum and warps over time and leaks contact your scag dealer service dept. to replace the 2 plates beneath yours. It had only 280 hrs. on it. Scag won't call the plate a recall, but recommends replacing it with the cast iron plate. Don't over tighten the two bolts in attempt to stop your leak or you can easily strip out the holes...speaking from experience. Best to have your scag dealer replace plates. Save yourself a lot of hassle.

Although I have the turf tiger there was a recall by scag on the hydro hoses. My machine was purchased in January 2012 and I noticed the leaks in March 2012. Was leaking around the couplings. Talked with scag about this. Dealer fixed mine right a way. Scag did a recall for this but think it might have been as much as a year after I brought it their attention. I have a copy of the recall.

This may not be your problem but wanted to comment as it might help others as well.

I think I posted a picture of my leaky coupling some time back.

Scag told me the the company that makes the hoses and couplings for scag had sent them a bad batch.

Thanks for the info. Will keep an eye on my neighbor's scag freedom z. She's a widow and I watch over her equipment for her. Her leak was at a plate held in place with 2 bolts beneath her transmission assembly. Plate is aluminum and warps and leaks. Scag dealer replaced with cast iron plate and so far so good. So far, no one has issued a recall, which isn't very good reputation wise...but what do we expect these days. Even a good company like scag has down graded to cheaper parts made in china and mexico. Example, 2003 scag pulleys made in USA outlast 2006 pulleys made in mexico. Not much can be done to change business practices. All we can do is take care of our equipment the best we can and hope for the best.
