sup guy's and gal's i have a craftsman mower model #31p777/0296e1 and a poulan modle# 219807/0389b1 are these motors interchangeable?
the poulan was dry on oil and now its dead, SHAME ON ME. but the craftsman is a good motor but a bad transmission so i believe. on the craftsman there
is a lever on the back, when pulled out, you can drive it; but when it's pushed in you can push the mower by hand without harming the transmission/rear end.
i moved the craftsman mower today and noticed that as i was pushing it one wheel would roll forward and the other would roll backwards go figure!
also on the craftsman the battery does not charge when driving it, so the craftsman is pulling 100% of the electricity directly off the battery. what could be causing this?

How about starting with engine brand, you like Briggs&Stratton, Kohler, etc. Are you talking about push mowers, riders, what? Maybe some details like model, serial, code numbers off the engines?

If one wheel goes forward and the other back the diff is locked , that is how the park brake works on an auto transmission.
So either your transmission is jambed or the brake is stuck on.
Pull off the right rear wheel & you will see it right in front of your face.
Get some one to apply & release the brake and make sure the brake arm is fully retracting.
They get a fair bit if crud and can jamb quite easily.
The brake is on the gearbox lay shat not the rear axel.

How about you start it up and see if it drives.
Did you try pushing it with the pin in and out?
Is the brake pedal up ?

yes the break pedal is up

yes they are riding mowers
the brand and model # are as in my first post, both are a Briggs&Stratton product the poulan is a generic brand to craftsman for what i understand

Can you start and drive it?
thank your for the reply: no it want start.
i can grab the push pin's base at the (diff. / transmission) but i can not get enough leverage to move it back in place
i've taken the wheel off but and still cant move it back in place.

No the diff is fine.
If one wheel turns foreward and the other wheels turns backwards the diff is working properly.
The brake is stopping the dif from turning.
It has SFA to do with the brake pedal which is connected the the brake are with a bloody big spring and every thing to do with the brake actuating arm on the side of the gearbox behind the right wheel which it would appear you have not removed yet.
You will find it surounded with crud preventng it from releasing the brake jambing the gearbox preventing the drive pinion from rotating thus stopping the rear wheels from turning in the same direction which is why your mower won't move.
