my riding lawnmower (Murray 16hp ohv)engine(B&S 313707 0126-E1) runs at full speed(very fast real high rpm) no matter the throttle position. I have to choke to slow it down. I cleaned the carb(walbro lmt) cause it was flooding engine(flooded oil). I can see the butterfly closing when I throttle down but the engine still runs at the same speed very high rpm. Any suggestions?

(and I thought this was about races like on a track) Check your governor and linkages

Sounds like the governor gear in the crankcase is not pushing on the governor rod that goes through the crank case. Really the only way I can think to check it is to remove the engine and open the crankcase.
