DYT 4000 Problem

I did a search on this and couldn't find anything concrete, but I have a problem with my mower. It's a DYT4000 with the 18.5 Briggs Intek.
What is happening is that I can't run the mower unless it's at about 1/2 choke. I have removed and cleaned the carb, and even used wire to clean out the jets, and that didn't help. The only thing that I can think of is that my fuel solenoid is going bad. Does this happen? If I actuate the solenoid, the needle/valve doesn't come all the way in (bottom out), so I wasn't sure if that has anything to do with it. The other thing is that if I'm running the mower and unplug the solenoid, it only runs for 1-2 seconds. My thoughts are that with fuel in the bowl, it should run a bit longer, maybe 5-10 seconds.
Am I on the right track thinking this? Has anyone else had to deal with this?
I ask because I would rather replace the right part than throw things at it considering that the solenoid alone is over $40.

Thanks!

No, your solenoid is fine. You have a clog up in your carb.

Take the carb apart again, and take some pics, and we can help you clean it correctly.

I'll do that, I must have had something stay in there even after cleaning, I'll get it apart and get some pics
