I'm looking for one for model 917.278640

The original part is Advanced Air International, F8.5CCW 10 BLD, part number 1A6320-85090. I found look a-likes on Amazon and eBay except most turn clock-wise, and the part offered by Sears looks different.

F8.5CCW 10 decodes to 85." fan, counter clock-wise, 10 blades.

Sears: https://www.searspartsdirect.com/product/6015p9f7dx-0071-917/id-170439

Sears does not carry the washer or nut. Here's the same fan on Amazon with washer and bolt.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PZVLHQ/ref=sw_img_1?smid=A188CT08WE77G1&psc=1

The Sears and Amazon parts appear to be identical, but neither look like the original part.

Has anyone tried this fan? Did it work?

Thanks, Mike

P.S. Swapping in a new drive belt was nowhere near as easy as the manual made it sound. I had to remove the body and gas tank. That's how I discovered the damaged fan.

A few years ago Hydrogear did a standardization of pulleys and fans, which could account for the different appearance of the fan.

It also little easier to determine which fan setup needed if you post the transaxle model number from its serial number tag.

PLus I not finding a 917.278640 mower list on sears parts direct.

Also when I search the PN 1A6320-85090 it is coming up with a Tuff Torq fan.

All I wanted to do is replace the drive belt and pulleys. Oh well, now I can finally replace the gas tank.

I confirmed the part number. It looks like I've been looking at mower 917.297640, and that explains why the drive belt I bought is too short, 85" instead of 90".

I can't find a part number for the trans-axle. I washed it off and see not that is was made by Tuff Torq, and I see a patent number, but no part number. It might be underneath but now there is a puddle of water under the mower.

I guess this is an old mower. An EPA sticker on it says date of manufacture is 12-2007.

I could have sworn I googled the part number for that fan. Thanks. I found it on Amazon and ordered one.

I googled the correct part number for the ground drive belt and order it as well.

Ahh was kinda thinking you transposed a couple numbers which is easy to do. Since the transaxle tag is simply stuck on the axle housing it could have gotten lost. If it is still there is will be face rearward.

It appears that you do have a Tuff Torq K66Y [7A632084620] which the PNs I gave are correct for. Just note if you need any other transaxle parts most are available thru Tuff Torq dealers. Tuff Torq did apparently changed the diameter a little as it is now 8.4". The nut is metric and if I got it figured out it is a M10, Didn't find anything on thread pitch.

And yes according to serial number tag you mower was assembled on Dec 07, 2007.

One last note here. I see you are like me using an engine hoist. I only found one problem with it so far and that is the legs gets in the way at times.

The fan arrived. It fit perfectly. This time around I replaced the drive pulleys and belt, the mower belt, the trans--axle fan, gas tank, fuel filter, and fuel lines. I want to do an oil change, then I'm good to go.

Thanks for the help.

For the next guy.... 917.286460, 917.286461 and 917.286462 are all flavors of different DGS-6500 tractors. By all accounts, the best I can tell the big difference was transaxle difference. with 462 having K66Y and 461 having Peerless 347-3000 hydro. The kicker is don't rely on the manual they gave you with your tractor. Go look at the part number stamped on the tractor or better, the transaxle itself. I went thru same issue with the belt being too short etc... because the all documentation was referring to the 347-3000 when my tractor actually has K66Y. It actually seems they may have a few identical tractor part numbers with both transaxles. I came here looking for the right fan. Seems PN 1A6320-85090 is the right one for the K66Y. Lesson learned, double check everything.

Hope this might help someone down the line..................
