Ok, looking for advice, causes and possible solutions.

Mower deck does not engage (when actuated). Any suggestions? I have attached a page out of the parts manual to show the power take off (at the front of the engine) set up

Check that vacuum is getting to #23.
If so, #23 may be bad.

If no vacuum at #23, check the vacuum lines (not shown) running between #23 and #16 and from #16 to engine for leaks.

If vacuum is present at #16 but not at #23, #16 may be bad or not receiving a signal to open.

Is there another page regarding the PTO? Most of this hardware is described as 'Blade Brake.'

Hmmm first time I have seen a vacuum operated PTO setup.

Don't forget to check that #16 Vacuum switch is working as it may not getting the electrical signal from the PTO switch.

cpurvis, you could try looking up the IPL yourself at Cub Cadet but this is the PTO mechancial parts. Now of course on the dash there is a standard PTO switch.

You're right but the story doesn't stop there.

As near as I can tell, the horizontal shaft engine drives a horizontal shaft going to the mower. It may be that all of the things we're seeing in the above are working fine and the problem lies with the mechanism on the mower that turns horizontal rotation of this shaft into vertical rotation of the blades.

Wish I could look at this in person to understand it better.

Need the mower p/n to look at its IPL.

Yes the right angle gear box could be the problem as I have seen the bevel gears ground down to nothing on a few. If nothing at the deck would help some as I see a 44, 50, 54, and 60" belly decks.

Click on 2000 Series & see section 7 regarding PTO troubleshooting. Also check on section 8. Let us know what you find, thanks, Mark
