so a friend borrowed my wacker ... mentioned it was running sluggish so she had tweaked it to speed it up... I guess she then proceeded to wack away and something bad happened. when she finally brought it back it would not run, she said she had had it cked and mentioned valve problem ... I took it in for repair and sure enough low compression. So I am out a weed wacker as it wouldn't be cost effective to repair. I notice she apparently had trouble with the mow ball as there had been an adapter put on the shaft. I use my operator manuals and heed warnings ... manual states engine speed factory set do not make adjustments and DO NOT tamper with governor (special tool needed) ...
so, here is my question ................... if adjustment had been made to speed up the engine and weeds got wrapped around mow ball shaft to mess it up could the torque have caused too much pressure and mess up the values??

I take it you are trying to determine if your friend caused the problem, which is hard to say from here in Ky. That call would best be made by the shop that looked at it. I have no idea what happened to the valves, you need to ask them what is wrong with the engine, and exactly what needs to be done to fix it, and ask their opinion on what caused the failure.

Your friend admitting to have been playing with the gov. is enough for me to put the blame there. If you had a car with a wheel locking up, a wrong way to fix it is making the engine go faster!!!!

thanks Fish .... when someone has been so giving of their time to help me on projects it makes so hard to say no. I realize I should have made no lending of my power tools an iron clad policy. What is really pissing me off is when I asked what happened I get "I don't know" as a response when I know damn well she had trouble with the mow ball as there is a different part (actually an cool adapter that I would love to see if it helps) that has been added to the shaft just above the mow ball. I have found a used engine which is missing the carburetor, governor and air filter holder which I should be able to mount on my chassis and replace the missing pieces with those off my original engine. My concern now is I would have to have a shop check and adjust the governor or the replacement engine would probably mess up too. I'm guessing investing in a new wacker would have been the cheapest solution for me in the long run. I was hoping she would continue to help me finish projects in lieu of helping to paying for the damage ... regardless I have lost faith in the friendship because she has not been honest.

Your friend used it, made adjustments to it, over worked it by getting stuff wrapped around the head.

Your soon to be ex friend broke it
There is no need to adjust the RPMs

I believe she made it over rev.

Yeah, I learned a long time ago... If you loan a friend a lot of money, you probably won't ever talk to them again......

And the sad thing about helping folks online for free, is that they think the advice here is paid by Monsanto, or something....

So I am usually gruff, etc... Because they think we owe them for posting on the website...... And of course there is all of the rest of the gang with a lot to say..........

I also learned a long time ago..... If you help folks fix their stuff for free....... You are going to have a lot of phoney friends.....

So if I am accused of being a big dick here, that is ok, they can wade through some poop to fix their mower for free.....

When someone wants to borrow a tool I send them to the boxes knowing I will not get them back
