A guy gave me this mower and today I replaced the belt and blades. Their seems to be no tension adjustment available on this model. I can only see where there is a pre-sized metal bracket that has two attachment points...: the first is to the upright by way of a cotter pin and then it attaches to the sliding bracket in a pre-cut hole to ...I am guessing...give it the required pre-determined tension. Used belt 144200. I cant see on any diagrams where anything else is attached to increase the tension. The blades start turning immediately upon the engine being started. The engage/disengage lever seems to be connected to a spring to depress the kill switch but on the attachment end to the deck it only connects via another cotter pin on a bracket and the bracket connects to nothing else....I see no brake pads or anything on the pulleys anywhere.
Anyone have some information I sure would appreciate. Thanks Scott

You have routed the belt wrong. If the pulley have a deep V in it the that touches the inside of the belt. I the pulley is flat ans wider it touched the back side of the belt.

New one went on just like old one

Toward the center of the deck there are two idle pulleys. The right pulley is on a moveable arm that pushes the brake arms off of the spindle pulleys. Make sure that idler arm moves freely, and not sticking. The other thing to look for is the right brake arm has a roller on it that rides on the idler bracket. it will wear a groove in the bracket, and will act like a detent, preventing the deck from disengaging.
