I just recently inherited the Craftsman LT 400 riding lawn mower and just starting to use it this spring. Having a problem with the clutch when I let out on the clutch to move the lawn mower jumps and then settles in to the speed I have chosen with the gear. It does it every time I press in and then let out on the clutch. Can anybody diagnose this issue as to where I start looking to resolve the issue? I would appreciate some knowledgeable help.

The clutch and brake are on the same pedal
There is generally a spring where the brake is so you can balance the braking
Back it off a little.
The brakes are 2 position full on or full off.
They lock the diff so the wheels turn in opposite directions thus a sudden death application.
You can adjust it so the brake is just off before the clutch takes up but every time you adjust the clutch you then have to adjust the brake.
If you have no hills then you can make the gap between brake off & clutch out a bit bigger to give you a smoother clutch take up
