Question for those more knowledgeable than I. I have rebuilt lots of Briggs and kawasaki twins, but just redid my first two Kohlers. I got two CH740s - one with a broken push rod and one with a broken timing gear. Fixed the hard parts and put them all back together and fired them up. The first was noisy for a while but seemed to quiet down after a few minutes - I assume it was the lifters pumping up? The second made a lot of racket so I shut it down. Doesnt look like it ran long enough to get oil through the whole system, but the lifters seemed wet. I found one bent push rod in there. On both engines I bled down the valves and had about 0.100" of travel in the lifter. Is that enough? Did I not bleed them down enough? I turned it over a few times by hand before starting and tehre were no problems or contact. I'm stumped by what would cause the rod to bend... any thoughts?
