Working on a 140cc Briggs
It has the following stamped into the crankcase with a dot stamper
09P702-0122-H1
DOM 010814
On the side is a sticker with this
Serial 140104 51 85207

The parts book gives different parts for engines either side of "date code 18070100"
Any one out there knows how these numbers relate to each other ?
I am cool with the model code & type And assume the Date of manufacture is std USA format being Jan 8th 2014
But what is the date code in the parts book ?
First 8 digits of the serial ?

18070100 is July 1, 2018. Date code is YYMMDD Did you miss copy the DOM Because DOM says Jan 8, 2014 and the serial number says Jan 4, 2014

Thank you good sir,
Once again I am in your debt
18070100 came out of the parts list I just downloaded and the extra 2 0's at the end threw me so they obviously get disregarded.
So the first 6 digits on the serial should be the DOM as well, that is also good to know.

The numbers are correct are correct.
I always photograph them because I can usually read the photos easier than directly reading the stickers or stampings.

Took forever to work out the second letter in the model as a P
This engine has a black painted crank case & there is chip where the head of the P would have been

The mower was bought from a mower shop so the blower housing on it now might not the the same as when it left the factory.
They do get broken really easily in transit and on the showroom floor.

In any case, the correct head gasket kit has just been ordered so all hopefully will be well.

I have an 09P702-0145-F1 and the characters are dang hard to read on the crankcase. That dot stamper really sucks.

Honda used that dot stamper for years also. Was always hard to read stamped into the block. Briggs makes it worse because of the paint.

Bert the last two digits are just more or less place holders with aspect to parts lookup. the actually code stamped into the engine will normally be numbers or letters which refer to which factory and line manufactured the engine. For Dealers and normal people don't really mean much.

Thanks again.
The Honda stampings & Lonsin as well are a lot taller letters which makes them easier to read than the brigs typeface which is about the same height as the original solid letter stampings.
