This part fell from under my 21 hp craftsman mower, Model 917.28924, after I ran into a 4 x 4 landscape tie. I examined the undercarriage but can't find where it was located.

Looks like the screw height adjuster for the deck. Normally located in the lower dash to either the left or right side just above the belt tunnel

I believe this is a Red Herring object. as nothing like it is list in the IPL.
