I have been working on my 6.5HP push mower motor. I looked on B&S.com and they didn't have my manual my model number is 126T02-0675-82. The issues that I am having are I can spray starter fluid to fire it up but it shuts down right afterwards. I was able today to get it running but I had to hold the lever that attaches to the flapper in the carb than goes to a lever on the EXH end of the ENG in the closed position on the carb. I was told today that it was the choke. I have noticed that when the ENG runs a while the flapper tends to stay open. can anyone give me some guidance or some hints on where to get a manual to help me out. thanks in advance.

Please double check your model numbers and post back. You can get the rebuild kit at any good repair shop. The numbers you posted I cannot find. When I get different numbers, I will get you a part number.

I won't disagree with ILengine. For some reason I can't get the number to come up in Briggs or anywhere else. Must be my old age, thanks for your help IL.

What you have is the Briggs Ready Start.
Sounds like it could just be the carb causing your problem but check out the link above.
If the lever is not set right or sticking it can cause bad start but going by the picture your choke is working.
The metal lever at the exhaust were bad for sticking but they seem to be sorted now.

My Briggs brute mower engine had the same problem, and after a good cleaning, and a new needle seat it runs fine. The seats in these carbs go bad quick from sitting when not in use for long periods of time like over the winter.
