I have a Briggs and Stratton 44L777-0111E1 on a Swisher ZT2350 zero turn and I have a general question about the operation of the oil sending switch. The switch stays open normally and once running closes to create its connection to the hour meter. Is that it's only purpose for this model of Briggs or will it shut the engine down in a low oil situation? The Swisher mower has no dash setup for idiot lights.

Since most times the engine needs the magneto coil to be grounded then no won't shut it down. It would require some additional wiring and a relay. Kinda a dumb idea on Briggs part.

No additional wiring and no relay. Weird that the only purpose of a part that can clog or go bad is just to run an hour meter but then again maybe for some other models it connects to the low oil light as well. regardless, thank you for the info.
