Snapper 21404P

Briggs MAX series 190cc 111702 - 0166 01 - 89012728

Went a little over board on the valve clearances. Pulled the valve cover to check the valves. Knew there was nothing (1989 era). Sure enough 0 lash. Took a file and barely scratched the valve. Got out the 4" air cutoff wheel. With low revs and gently rolling the valve, went from 0 lash to 2-3 thou over in an instant. If you guys are grinding down your valves, GO SLOW and CHECK OFTEN.

Combustion chamber wasn't to bad with carbon. Seen a lot worse. Love this engine cause it has a main jet screw you can adjust. Tweak the mix in perfect. Only a couple faint scratches in the bore. Bore looked great for a 1989 Briggs. Waiting on a new breather gasket.

The EX valve had a small pin to hold the valve in. Never seen one of those. Had a special retainer, cool setup. Intake valve was normal Briggs.

That's no way for a future president to grind valves ?
Just build the excess clearance back up with JB weld steel stick...

I thought about something like that. Figured they will settle in a bit and get near'ish in spec. Doubt it my luck. Guess it's better than no clearance Clarence.

Love the break over white shifter. What a classic movie. (y)
