Anyone know if a bent front axle (craftsman ride on) can be repaired and re-used?? Will it be strong enough if I remove and straighten it??>

It should be, provided there are no splits on the box section

Hi Mikemae

Just wondering how it got bent did you hit something or did it just bend on it's own.If you hit something then you should be ok just straightening it back, but if it just bent on it's own there you better look and see why it bent ?Like the weld broke or something fell off there got to be a reason it bent, because it properly will not stay straight again.:licking:

Some years back my father-in-law had a Craftsman tractor with a loader the extra weight bent the front axel at the wheels. We were able to straighten both of them and then weld some small gussets in place. He had the tractor for another 10 years with no problem. So depending on where your bend is I would say yes. Oh, it is best to bend the steel cold, heating will weaken the steel.

Ah yes, the all too common front axle bends. If you can get it close to where it should go, you can weld on some gussets. Otherwise, find a used one in good shape. The repair is worth about $100.00 at my modest shop, used parts included. Take your dead one with you for a correct match.
