I have a gt5000 with a 24 hp b & s , late 90's , early 2000's not sure, I bought it used .
Last night while mowing it backfired and about five minutes later the mower quit . I pushed in the plunger and headed back to the garage , it spit and sputtered like it was running out of gas . I made it back to the garage and turned it off . Found the fuse was blown and changed it . Tried to start it and nothing happened , nothing , just dead . Any ideas to save me time on the troubleshooting ?

Lets start with the normal stuff. Need the model number off the mower and engine. Change the spark plugs air filter. Try starting again. I also need to know what "nothing" means to you. Like you turn the key and nothing at all happens or you turn the key and the engine cranks but it will not start.

Thanks for the reply .
Nothing is nothing , no cranks , no clicks , nothing .
I thought it was the solenoid , because I put a wrench on both posts it started right up .
Changed that , nothing .
As it was running, ( after jumping ) I tried to turn on the deck , no luck .
Then I changed the pto plunger , then the ignition switch .
Same results after both , nothing .
The only things I have left to change in the electric (that I can see in the diagram) are the safety switches .
I was just hoping someone here would have had the same issue , and could have given me some advice .
Going to try the seat safety switch next .
On the bright side I have all those parts that still work .

Thanks

This may sound like a stupid question, but I gotta ask to be sure... You did hook up the solenoid right, right?
Also, I got mixed up with mine when I changed mine. Luckily, I found a pic that had the same colored wires.
There's a good video of testing safety switches on Youtube.

Take a test light, remove the white wire from the solenoid and test for voltage with key in the start position, the light should light. if not backprobe the harness (white wire) till you get voltage once you do find voltage there is your problem

The solenoid should be hooked up correctly . I take pictures of things like that before I take them apart for that very reason . I'm going to have test it though .

Thanks
