!988 12hp Biggs wire connection.

Trying to piece a lawn mower back together with a Briggs 12hp.
Model# 281707
Type# 0411-01
The duel lead wire was cut off from the stator but the lug for it is still on the mower. Pig tail 3" ?
Found info that states there is a diode. One wire is to charge the battery and the other is for the lights.
Does anyone know which wire gets the diode ? What size diode do I need ? Would it be for the lights ?

Briggs make around a dozen different alternators and they are all interchangable .
To identify them once fitted briggs colour code both the wires and the plug
So as Star has stated we need to know the colours of the wires.

As perviously mentioned there can be 1, 2, 3, or 4 wires coming out of the alternator
They can be black, red, yellow or white or ant combination of the afore mentioned colours
Unless we know what the wires are the only place we can tell you to put them is not mentioned in polite company.
IT could be single wire AC onl;y
Single wire diode only
2 wire diode on one the other AC
two wire AC for rectifier
or rectified & regulated
or rectified & regulated with warning light.

Did my homework and found the answer to my question.
It's a duel (2) wire stator. No voltage regulator in this system.
One wire is red and the other is black.
The red wire has the diode in it. That wire is used to charge the battery.
The black wire is for the lights only. The wire changes color at the stator connector plug from black to white.
Hope this helps someone.

I 2nd that John Waters should start a separate thread as it piggy backing a current can be confusing.

Those wires colors was what we needed just to make sure you weren't dealing with a larger amperage stator that needs a regulator. As stated the black lead is for the lights only as it is AC. The red lead with the diode is a half-wave rectified DC for battery charging.

The following diode should be fine to use. It is what I am using here.

So you're saying this is a good to go part for the Briggs p/n 592831 stator ?

One thing I did do is take an ohm reading for the two coils on the stator to make sure they were not open.
The lighting coil was .5 ohms and the charging coil was 1.4 ohms.
These values were at the stator not probed thru the harness plug.
Someone had cut the harness between plug and stator. Why ? I don't know.
Have a pigtail of about 2 inches at the stator and the plug is non usable, but the main harness plug is not damaged.
