I ran my JD216 after 'bout 18 months. Added gas, not completly empty.
Cranked/ran fine for about 45 minutes. Lost power & died.
Bottom line, fine surface rust in carb bowl was only possible problem I could find.
Fuel to carb, compression, Ignition - good.
I removed bowl/float & float valve, idle and main fuel valves. Did not remove welch
plugs. Soaked parts in carb cleaner. Assembled w/ new gaskets per Kohler(factory)
parts manual. Wrong (compared to orig.) inlet needle valve in Kohler kit. Used orig.
valve looked good. Installed carb. Cranked, idled for couple minutes. But gas flowing
through port in inlet throat. See image. And began to die out.
Could rust particles be in uncleaned cavities with welch plugs in place?
Any suggestions. IMG_1894.1.JPG

Please post the engine spec number, as their are a 11 different carbs for that engine. This could be why you got the wrong kit. Also post the part number for the carb kit you purchased.

The Walbro carb is an adjustable jet (their term.) # 45 053 79 Apparently used in 4 to 6 K341 model variations and 1 M16 model.
Repair Kit - # 25 757 11 I have ordered it 4 diff. times on 'net. None had the float needle to match existing. BUT the last had the float valve
correct square body shape but too short. I used orig. valve and new attachment spring, gaskets.
See images for more info.

Which Walbro WHG do you have just to verify the correct Walbro kit? Beside it is better to order the Walbro repair kit instead of the Kohler kit. It also appears that all 25 versions of the WHG did used the K1-WHG kit. Also you may need to adjust the float hinge.

Thanks for reply. I adj. per the Kohler K341 repair manual. I checked the K1 kit. The float valve is correct square shape, but its hanger is diff.
Mine is a round, spring shape. It threads onto top of valve. Can't tell from pics if it's same overall length. :(
I've talked Kohler and Walbro tech. persons. Neither could find my carb number in their data. I did find it in photo copies
of old data. Guess I'll order a K1 and hope.

I still question whether I need to remove welch plugs and re-vat carb.

Strange. It is listed the TP-2377 carburetor manual and you did order the correct kit per it. Check the needle for ringing and the seat for damage.

No
You crank the motor with your finger holding the float up
Fuel stops flowing before the float touches the carb and all is well .
Or flip he carb over and pressurise the inlet
The weight of the float on an upside down carb should seal off 5 to 7 psi
The welch plugs are only needed to be removed if NO FUEL was flowing so a blocked hole can be cleaned .
