Hi. New member to the forum from Texas. This is a great place for info and repair tips.

2017 Personal Pace Model 20340. This was a mower I had found on a curbside and picked up. It needed a new drive belt, carb cleaned and a new blade.

I did notice that it had very little oil when I got it. I drained that, put some fresh SAE30 in it along with some seafoam, ran it for 10 mins, drained it again and put some fresh Synthetic 10W-30 in it. I used it last year, had the dreaded grinding noise from the rear drive so I did some adjustments at the wheels and that went away.

Mowed my lawn this past weekend after begin in storage for about 4 months. It fired right up. Had a little bit puff of smoke no big deal. Used it around my lawn, turned it off and went to restart. Pull cord was hard to pull back. I spun the blade to free it. Then pulled the cord and it fired up. Did that again a few times until it wouldnt start anymore. below are the pics why.

I like this mower. The drive system is great and cuts very well. So I opted to buy a new Kohler engine from SEW ( small engine warehouse ). $129 shipped to me for a XT675-3088. Specs below.

149cc 6.5 Torque Vertical 25mmx3-5/32" Shaft 7/16"-20 D & T, OHV, Recoil Start, Safety Brake, Fits Toro, Kohler Engine Kohler 2-Year Manufacturer's Warranty

I am assuming that since it fits Toro I will have no issue with my bolt hole pattern on the deck.

Take it from sad personal experience: That is your first error.

Well the gentleman at SEW said it would too. The old mower had the same shaft size, key slot, tap size and shaft length

Very Good.
But I will stand by my statement, borne out by years of experience.
Good Luck to you, none the less.

Thanks. I will keep this thread updated as to my finding. For my sake I hope you are wrong. But now you got me nervous. We will see how it turns out.

New Engine will be here Friday 4/3/20. It's either going to drop right in because I did my research and found all the critical measurements or I will be in for disappointment.

The problem usually comes with fouling on handlebars , The discharge chute or height adjusters.
Some times you have to change the air filter or fit the engine back to front or east west .
There is more to it than just the mounting bolt centers .

Hard to tell from the pictures but I suspect the old motor didn't like the type of oil at all. Aluminum piston on aluminum bore, heat, pressure, it tried to weld itself together. Good thing with the new Kohler is the cast iron cylinder sleeve.
And I'd highly recommend using actual Kohler oil in new motor, cost a dollar or so more but is the right stuff for the air cooled four stroker.

New Kohler fit right in with no issues. Only thing I had to do was tap the mount holes to 3/8-16. Everything else fit on just like it came off.

Put in some 4 cycle 10W-30 and some fresh 93 octane and fired up on first pull. I appreciate all your guys input.
