Recently i have noticed an oily film on the deck after use. Reading the postings on the forum i had convinced myself that the bottom seal was bad. I looked under the deck yesterday and the shaft shows no evidence of oil, infact its still looks like new.
Any ideas? I'm thinking perhaps a bad muffler gasket. Anyway, this is a great forum and glad i found it. One other bit of info the oily film is always found behind the muffler.'Thanks in advance.

do you have a fuel shutoff valve installed?it may be that you are loading up the crankcase with fuel while it is not in use. Then when you run it again its blowing out the excess on to your deck

Thanks for replying. I always keep petcock open in the summertime so that could be the problem. I''ll check it out.
