Craftsman 54" mower grass buildup in deck

Yikes! Maybe a bit too obvious, but do you prop up the plastic deflector on the discharge side when you mow? I use a bungee and drilled a hole in the deflector and I can hold it up at a 45 degree angle which throws the cuttings way off and helps keep the deck from building up a bunch of...

    1998 lt1000 bagger

You may and likely will find a used or better yet inoperative similar model that has a bagger for short money. You didn't say where you live, but I see them on FB marketplace all the time. for the cost of new bagger system $250+ you can likely find a used mower with everything (including...

    No oil change?

I take all my used engine oil and hydraulic oils to a friend who owns a car repair shop and has a used oil burner/heater. Works great and he loves the hydraulic oil because it is great burning. Those of you that live in cold weather regions should check with your local shops to see if they...

Lifetime Deck warranty is not hhhhonored

The good news is that that is a straight forward and easy 1 hour repair by a competent welder. It looks more to me like most likely there was some deck failure around the rear wheel and then contact with a solid object peeled it open like a can opener. I can see why Husqy would decline...

Low-gade Metal in Blades -- all blades, any brand?

Boy I've had nothing but good luck with and am very impressed with the Oregon G5 blades. They are MUCH heavier, bigger, thicker, and hold up well.

    Engine bad, need to repower

Man Jastech, you're a glutton for punishment. Why is the bagger on that mower with 4' high grass? Are you mowing just a pathway, or are you trying to knock down the whole area? You can push a (running and working) mower while holding it up angled at the front by pushing down on the handle...

    Won,t Start

Clean and check the ground to chassis connection from the battery, and clean the connections on the battery cables by removing, wire brushing in/out and then put back on. If replacing the starter solenoid didn't end the click on trying to start, it's likely connections.

    There's your problem

I have to say you win the grand prize for the nastiest carb and bowl I've seen! Wowzers. You can thank ethanol laced fuel for that or was this engine being used as a mooring for a boat in salt water? Fortunately, with the problems in new fuel formulations, replacement carburetors are...

    Blade Wear Seems Odd ???

They look fine to me. As pointed out, the blades are mulching blades only the outer tip makes first cut/contact with grass and the rest is designed to chip into finer bits. With that said, I moved to using Oregon Longer Life 596-900 Gator Fusion G5 3-In-1 Mulching Blades on my Craftsman...

Mower for 6 to 7 acres

I have 14 acres and mow about 9 acres of it I have LandPride FDR1672 finish mower behind a Kubota L3600 Tractor. I have trees but nothing close to 100 in the mower no area, but still plenty to dodge. Your note says that all the trees have mulch beds around. While mowing is your focus you...

How To Drain Fuel B&S P2200 Portable Generator

I worry about tipping any 4 stroke engine upside down as the oil in the sump will flood the top end and may cause other issues. I think a better approach is to siphon out as much fuel as possible and then start up the generator to clear the remaining dregs of fuel that siphoning didn't remove...

    craftsman 917.288563 24 hrse briggs. won't move.

BeBuzz: Did this tractor operate normally and then suddenly this was the condition, or is this a new tractor to you? There is a purge procedure for these hydrostatic transmissions when they get air locked in a funk. Have you done that yet?

Craftsman riding mower stops cutting still running

For anyone without a set of ramps, floor jack, or other means of getting the tractor front up to work on the deck, if you have a basement and also a bulkhead, I've used the bulkhead doors as a ramp.

    Craftsman r110 blades wont engage

Sounds like a broken pto cable or cable end or dismounted end meaning it's not in the cradle that holds the sheath so the cable is just moving with the sheath so it can't retract. 946-04802A

    PTO always engaged

A couple of thoughts on this. The blue in the ball bearings speaks volumes about the heat that caused it all to seize up. The rust on the center suggests that this could have been washed down after use and then water would lie there and go to work on corrosion. For longevity on older model...

    Riding mower won't brake/stop

There are a few variables that might be in play here. Is this a hydrostatic drive or manual gears? The front of the transaxle case has a bolt connected to an ear on the cross member of the frame that the keeps the transaxle in position. I've had that bolt break on two of these tractors and...

Craftsman LT1000 917.272761 freewheel control lever stuck

That can get gummy and stiff. I use PB Blaster and the nozzle straw helps to shoot it in the pivot pin on top of the transaxle. If you wash your tractor down, or, if you store outside uncovered, water or rain water can find its way down there and combined with mowing dust it makes a bit of...

Belt keeps jumping off the pulleys

I had this on my Hydrostatic drive 46" tractor. After a good bit of looking and thinking, I found that the front mounting bolt to the transaxle was snapped off and it then allowed the transaxle to rotate slightly under negative load which popped the belt off. Pull a wheel and look at the two...

Craftsman ID stickers, serial numbers, and dates.

I was curious about how old my Craftsman tractors are. I have forgotten when I got them, but knew it was a little while ago. I have 15 acres and the property beats the daylights out my tractors. I had been getting a new lawn tractor every six or so years and then moving the primary tractor...

post proof of bad ethanol problems

Here's just a small portion of the crap that I took out of the bowl of a Vanguard Briggs & Stratton motor that wouldn't run on Saturday. This Briggs 12.5 2 cyl engine is in a chipper/shredder that wouldn't run beyond a lumpy idle for anything. Enough fuel was getting through the jet to...

Husqvarna 223L string trimmer - design flaw causes starter cord retractor to fail

I bought a new string trimmer this spring and opted for the Husqvarna 223L straight shaft. I've had a straight shaft Echo trimmer for 14 years and it's worked great, but it just worn out from 14 years of heavy use. I started using the Husky 223L in April and last weekend when I started it...

Which type of mower for very steep slope?

Any garden or lawn tractor can be modified to dual rear tires. Just run duals on it and then hold on tight! I used to mow steep banks for a summer job 40 years ago and we had Simplicity tractors with duals and we went sideways on 45 degree slopes daily. The hardest part of doing that is...

    Last Snow of the Season??

To quote Yogi Berra's famous line: "It ain't over 'till it's over!" Memorial Day mess: 3 feet of snow falls in Upstate N.Y. It was pretty cold here (Boston) most of the weekend. Saturday was in the low 40s and raining sideways most of the day. That was all snow 100 miles north and west.

Ummm...not here. Plowed Monday and will be plowing again tonight. 3-4" for tonight coming in and then again possibly next Tuesday. Winter is not yet quite done. We had the lowest snowfall ever last winter. We had zero snow through January this winter, and now we are sitting on the 6th...

    Opinion wanted!

I'm in the snow business for a living. For sure, no matter what happens now will be short lived so its ok to start thinking about spring clean ups. While you can get storms in March and even April, they melt in a week or less so the threat of being iced in with trouble for winter is over and...
