New carbs don't usually come ready to run out of the box. You will have to adjust the carb to were it seems it's running at its best.

Then the carb is more than likely the issue.

Because if you have a mower that you have to prime to start, what a primer usually does is pump a couple squirts of gas into the throat of the carb making it easier to start up. And since you said that your mower only runs for a bit then shuts off, if it's the type of mower that you have to...

to be honest man.........run it as long as you can, but ACTUALLY take care of it, and don't TRY to destroy the motor like you are now, because that money for a new engine you might need for something else down the road, and you might wish you never got that engine..... just my 2 sense
