    Fellow LB addict here

Good reminder. I checked that and it made no difference. I got my small drill bits yesterday as well as a new carb. Will try drilling out the old main jet first after checking old diameter versus new and go from there. Owner loves his mower because the walking pace is FAST. And I mean fast.

Bad Thermostat choke on Briggs 550EX???

Just had the same problem on my own mower and found the part separately for less that $20. Hardest step was finding the part number on the Briggs site. With a model number shown like this: I discovered typing in the first part before the first dash brings something up on the Briggs site so...

How were the surging issues fixed? I have a friend with one that surges after a few minutes of running and will die if you don't choke it hard or keep priming. Saw another thread about drilling out the main jet.

what is most likely my problem

Sounds like it's time to take it apart. What will you find? I like this part of the process. Post pics.

    new guy

After a spark check, I'll pull the carb bowl and clean the spots with red arrows leaving the carb still on the machine. The spun wire files shown above work good, or torch tip cleaners shown below with the ends cut off to get at that top hole in the nut. Bad spark plugs are rare. Dirty...

Stop My Neighbor Dogs Pooping In My Yard

A little girl down the street made a sign for her yard that said "Please pickup dog waste". It was made of cardboard and a stick. See if that works. Go from there. Level 2: sign that tells them where to get waste bags. Good luck.

It just stopped like you had turned off the key

Had a dead Craftsman rider that behaved like yours. Would not start at all, even with starter fluid. Hand over air intake showed no suction at all. What what you get on yours. It was a bent valve lifter rod. Took the head off it and replaced that rod and was good to go once again. Didn't...

    Anyone running Microsoft's newest version: 2004 ?

I know what you mean about the frustration. I'm lucky to have my son helping me so I present the problem(s) to him and see what he can come up with. The kid is good and likes to outdo me, but we all benefit, so I don't mind. I've got one more solid state drive on my shelf, so I'm wondering if...

    Anyone running Microsoft's newest version: 2004 ?

I've been able to upgrade without an account. I don't remember how I found it, but when they obsoleted the my old version of Windows, I was able to upgrade at no cost. If you want it, I'll find it for you.

    Anyone running Microsoft's newest version: 2004 ?

I went to Windows 10 as well and had to upgrade my laptop hard drives because they were so slow. Upgrading wasn't that hard. I got some new solid state drives with no moving parts for about $65 and man are they fast. It's like I've got 3 new laptops at home now. Glad I did it. Got Western...

Engine surges and sometimes stalls after running perfectly for 20-30 minutes.

Does it still happen if you loosen the gas cap?

XT2 acts like it is out of fuel after 15 minutes runtime.

Had that with a push mower, but it was in 5-10 minutes. Gas cap needed a small hole drilled in it. Metal piece on the other side was missing. Super easy test: open the gas cap when it starts doing it next time. If it clears, you've got a vacuum in the tank.

Here's another similar fix. Mower was surging and leaking gas on top of tank. I put a hose clamp on the intake pipe to hold the white retaining ring in place along with the rubber o-ring behind the retaining ring. This stopped the gas leak and the surging.

I enjoy helping people with broken mowers and have had plenty of 'business' over the last couple of years. Thought I'd check out your forum. Here's a fix I did recently on a mower that would not start unless I covered the intake to the carb with tape. And then it would surge as I covered and...
