B & S 450E weedeater push mower. Changed plug, still no spark

Maybe check to see if the bail cable isn't bad. It may not have sufficient tension to disengage whatever kill system is on the mower.

16.5 hp Briggs and Stratton I turn the ignition switch and flywheel only turns 1/4 of the way around and stops. If I keep turning the key eventually

Saw that the OP had another post about this problem and had the engine number listed. 463707-2238E1-02020115A flathead

Thanks for this. Can't believe I've never seen the channel. I can almost hear my wife saying "...another mower channel?" :p

    Model 128M05-0026-F1 with no compression.

I stupidly bought a $13 (amazon) compression tester that wouldn't work on anything with an ACR unless it was spun with a drill. I figured if I did it someone else may have too.

Mustie1 Although he's not strictly small engine, I've found Mustie1 very good at diagnosing. Problem is you can't tell by the video title what the issue is gonna be that's causing the problem.

    Model 128M05-0026-F1 with no compression.

Might need to spin the engine with a drill to deactivate the compression release to get a true reading. Is the head gasket good? Blown will cause loss of compression. Also if you whacked something recently the flywheel key may be slightly sheared causing a timing issue. If you are getting a...

    Craftsman Rider dies

So the problem might be the aftermarket carb. I would crack the nut on the fuel solenoid to see if gas dribbles out. You can then be sure fuel is making it to the bowl. Then check the float as bertrrr suggested.

    80's Snapper w/ 3HP Engine - Throttle Linkage

So if your air vane is moving freely and so are your throttle plates, my guess is your spring might be shot or the governor linkage is damaged. With the mower buttoned back up, you can manually move the linkages to see if you get a running speed. Just leave the screw in the carb throat, auto...

    Craftsman Rider dies

Is your fuel filter one of those paper filters that amazon sells at 15 for 9 bucks? If it were me, I would have no obstruction between the fuel tank and carb and see what happens. It could be as simple as a crappy fuel filter.

    Craftsman Rider dies

The pros are gonna need your model type and code of your engine and the model # of your rider to really help. In the meantime, what happens if you delete the fuel filter? Can you replace it with a shut off valve to see how it runs then.

    80's Snapper w/ 3HP Engine - Throttle Linkage

Also might want to check under the shroud to see if the air vane governor is moving as it should

    80's Snapper w/ 3HP Engine - Throttle Linkage

I have the 3.5 horse version of this engine on my tiller. That knob is the throttle control. Here a pic of my linkage, hope it helps.

    Cold start problem

So if the fuel solenoid is faulty it could definitely be contributing to the problem. It could be stuck open, closed or somewhere in between. When mine went bad, I cut the tip off with some strong cutters and reinstalled without it connected. If you use anything besides cutters to remove the...

    Cold start problem

Are you sure the choke plate is totally closed and moves correctly. Maybe try blocking it manually to see if it helps. If the weather is really cold the oil grade could possibly be contributing to the problem. If its definately not the choke I'd guess its running too lean to start when cold...

    17.5 (31C707-0154-e1) weak starter

You can always try connecting power directly to the starter, bypassing the wiring and solenoid. If it goes you know you have a bad connection somewhere. Also see how it cranks without a plug(s), no compression. It should crank at a good speed. If it doesn't may be a bad starter. Why was all...

    Engine turns over won't run

Also if it won't stay in neutral there may be a safety interlock killing your spark.

    Engine turns over won't run

Before the pros arrive to give their advice I would remove the air filter and squirt some carb cleaner into the carb to see if you get a sputter. You could also give a little shot into the spark plug hole, bypassing the carb. If you get a sputter Its most likely a fuel issue. If you get...

    Briggs plastic gas tank question

Sealing that hole and buying a vented cap would be ideal. My problem is finding a vented cap that fits this tank. I'd hate to buy a new cap only to find its sealed also. If anyone needs to know, the cap I have currently is 594061 which has been superseded to 84004416 Also Rivets is correct...

    Briggs plastic gas tank question

Thanks for the replies and Ideas. @Rivets I'll definitely give a shop a try, but they are getting harder to find. Had three close up in the last 5 years or so. @sgkent that's a good idea. I have some black tygon line that may work. I just wonder if there's something in the end of that tip...

    Briggs plastic gas tank question

Thanks for the reply. So I guess this takes the place of a cap vent for emissions? I'm no engineer but it seems really dumb to place a thin plastic tube into an area that is frequently messed with. Would sealing this hole and using a vented cap be a solution? The used tanks on ebay are going...

    Briggs plastic gas tank question

Part number for the tank is 594112 superseded to 84004115 Mower is Husq 96145003500 Briggs engine 103M02-0070-F1 I'm wondering if this is a tank vent of some sort.

    Briggs plastic gas tank question

I just rescued a newer Briggs that was headed for scrap due to a carb issue. When I tipped the mower to change the oil, some gas escaped from the top of the tank where a little fitting?? has been snapped off. I've seen this type of tank before but never with the little fitting. It goes into the...

Recoil kickback not flywheel key on 4hp Briggs

Thanks for the replies folks. There is no blade installed so I'll try that next. Before I pull the sump and check the compression release as StarTech suggested, is there anything else that comes to mind? I truly appreciate the time taken to answer this post.

Recoil kickback not flywheel key on 4hp Briggs

Hello all..longtime lurker first time poster. I have an old Briggs Quattro 4hp L-head that is ripping the recoil cord out of my hand. This mower had its blade come off at speed before it was stowed for some years. I expected a sheared flywheel key. Key Looks perfect. I checked to see if the...
