I have a Yard Man lawn vacuum/chipper. It has a 190cc Briggs Quantum engine. I looked for the recommended RPM in the manual provided by MTD. It only says run the throttle in the high speed position. The provided Briggs Quantum engine manual is generic. It does not reference the type of implement it is used on.
My question is this: What does MTD recommended for the RPM on this machine?

sometimes it helps to add the model and serial number. In GENERAL these small motors run somewhere around 2800 - 3400 RPM but It may not be the motor that determines what the RPM should be. It may be the parts it is attached to, meaning the impeller and its parts may limit what RPM they can spin at. So without something else to go on, all you will get are guesses. Without the model and serial no one can even find a manual to see if it is there but you missed it, or there is a service manual for it.

Here is what is in the manual I found. You are looking for how to adjust the governor. That is likely to be a mechanical adjustment where the governor will determine the speed regardless how much you play with it. Likely there will be proper clearances etc., in the service manual for the engine.
4. Do not change the engine governor settings or
overspeed the engine. The governor controls the
maximum safe operating speed of the engine.

I am simply looking for the high speed RPM specification. The machine has a throttle control and I am not worried about the low speed spec. If anyone has the shop manual I would appreciate you looking it up for me.

Thanks.

According to that manual, the speed governor built into the engine controls the high speed. Basically the engine runs wide open at full speed but the governor pulls it back to whatever the governor mechanism is designed for. When the governor fails it will run too fast. You may need the engine make and number to go further on this. All the parts manuals online I have found just give the general assembly parts, and not the engine. The MTD site has it as a B&S Quantum XM model series 120000. First page shows where the engine model and serial will be to look up more. https://www.mtdparts.com/en_US/oper...VgyjqOxvjm5-kUnwzQca0gMRC-oUOVmkaAsC-EALw_wcB

Thank you for looking. It must be in a shop manual somewhere.

I am out. Maybe someone else can help you. You seem to be asking how to set the top speed of the engine when the manual says it is self-governing. The governor either works or it does not. If it works it will be somewhere around 3000 RPM +.- several hundred RPM.

I think you have been misunderstanding my question. It is NOT how do you set the top speed. I want to know what is the specified top speed for this machine. It is a number not a procedure. It must be in a MTD Repair manual. In other words what is the high speed is it designed to run at. Again, it is a number with units of Revolutions per Minute.
Thank you for trying.
