My neighbor has one of these battery mowers. He mows like once a month. Takes him all day to do his maybe 1500sf front yard. He gets 1 foot and the blade stops. Has to back up and sometimes clean out the deck. Better not let your grass get out of control if you have one of these. As in mowing...

Never rely on a color of a wire. Trace the circuit out with the proper schematic. Someone could of "helped" you out and rewired the sucker just as you mentioned. For all we know that could be the main + wire off the battery LOL. And since the wire is black, people think it needs grounding...

This isn't a John Deere problem. Your issue is with Kawasaki or actually all the owners of said engine. Pretty sure with proper maintenance, that motor would of been fine. Someone with a little small engine knowledge would of kept her going. slomo

You need a good degreaser. I use 70% ammonia and 30% water. You can run the ammonia full strength if you wish. Depends on how dirty the item is. Spare nuts like Rivets said works great. If the above doesn't get it clean nothing will. slomo

Another reason to run Stabil year round. Keep the tank full at all times if possible. slomo

Hope that butt splice wire doesn't have to carry a lot of current. I would run a new wire of equal gauge or larger copper. Could be a fusible link like the others suggested. slomo

Either the flywheel fins are gone, not likely or the block fins are covered up overheating the block. You should be able to mow in 100+ temps all day long. This is without removing hoods and other panels. Need to take your blower to the engine and mower after every mow. Don't forget to Turtle...

Where it says 23hp is the blower/flywheel shroud/engine cover. You need to remove that YEARLY to clean out all the grass, dirt, oil and bugs that will collect on the block cooling fins. Could have a mouse condo in there too. There are fins all the way around the cylinder. Get your engine manual...

Inteks are know for head gasket failures. Run the engine for a few minutes. Stop the engine. Remove the oil dipstick. Look for smoke coming out of the dipstick tube. Also run the engine and remove the stick again. Feel and look for oil mist blowing out of the same dipstick tube, engine running...

I wouldn't worry about it unless you are trying to fill dead spots. You can cut Bermuda at 1/4" to 10 feet tall. That stuff grows on concrete LOL. slomo

I've opened a couple of those transmissions up. All were bone dry lacking lube. Gears were noisy as you might guess. Cleaned them out with Diesel and an old paint brush. Refilled with 00 Snapper grease if I recall correctly. Took all the noise out. The ones I did were on Super Recyclers. slomo

Is 0.020" gap correct? Trying to recall but the Ford 390 v8 was like 0.014". Actually you used to use a matchbook flip open cover to gap those. Magnets could be out of polarity. slomo

I weld them with a soldering iron. Actually just fixed my trimmer tank. Mine had a seem crack in it. Take a flat iron tip and do circles on the plastic. You will see the plastic start to melt and flow. Don't park the iron tip as you will melt a hole in it. Gentle circles was what worked for me...

Check the ground surface for the coil. Coils hardly go bad but possible. How did you set the coil gap? Verify the coil plates have a clean direct path to the engine block. slomo

Crack open your gas cap. See if it makes the engine run proper after say 1-2 minutes. After 1-2, the fuel bowl will get low and make the engine stumble. If your vent in the cap is bad, it will cause this.It stops the fuel flow to the carb. Bet someone just threw on some carb they had sitting...

Does your carb have the bowl nut that has the main jet protruding from it? On the bottom of the fuel bowl, look for a screw with a spring. Yours might have a simple bolt. Mine has the main jet adjustment screw. slomo

HOW, did you check them? I'm reading it was a visual check. Grounds need to be tested at minimum for continuity and better yet under load.

Clean the pocket where the valve seat rests. Gently hammer valve seat back into the head with a proper fitting socket. Then you have to use a punch to push metal towards the valve seat ,all the way around the seat. Called restaking the seat I think. Should be several videos on youtube about it...

And make sure you have the valve cup/cap deals that ride on the small stem end of the valve. Those cups/caps are pressed on by the rocker arms to actuate the valves. Yes, valve to rocker arm clearance check is wise...... slomo

You don't just bolt on a new car-bu-trator. Need to check intake gaskets, possibly tune the pilot screw and idle speeds. Guess you can get lucky with a replacement car-bu-trator that runs ok out of the box. Best to dial it in so you know it's perfect. slomo

No your engines doesn't run well at any speed. It won't idle and max revs now are shot. Dirty carb is your issue and or possilbe failing spark. Running with the choke half way on is not proper operation. slomo

It said honing and sharpening an oilite bearing is NOT recommended. It removes the pores that hold the oil. Failure will occur. So wear and tear from a mower will leave that bearing dry. slomo
