No power to the small terminal on the solenoid means you must backtrack that red wire back to the key switch. Probably goes through three or four safety switches and PTO switch. If you provide the model and serial numbers we might find you a wiring diagram.

Have you even bothered to read and go through the procedure I posted. If you would have, instead of throwing parts at it, all of us would have a better idea of what is going on.

Just my opinion, I’ve not seen a front wheel drive Craftsman mower that has gone for more than five years with a tranny problem. Personally I don’t think that they are cost effective.

Jon, please start a new thread to eliminate confusion. Include your unit‘s model and serial numbers, plus the size of deck you are looking for, to help yourself out. Other wise you will not get much action.

Please post the model and serial numbers for this unit, located under the seat. I need to see which tranny you have.

If it is a cast deck, it will discharge just fine, probably better than 90% of the mowers out there. I’ll bet that it has a Briggs engine on it and the throttle cont is bent, reducing the speed. That is why I need the number, so I can explain how to adjust.

Please pos the model and serial numbers for the mower. If it is a model with the Briggs engine, you may have a unit which needs the carb adjusted.

The first thing I would check is to see if you are loosing a cylinder when then engine warms up. Possibly a coil going bad due to a ho short.

That is the compression release mechanism. Yes you will have to replace the cam gear, as it is an assembly part.

My experience with these carbs ( I’ve done at least 100) is that even a slight over size can cause smooth running problems. I use a .0145” micro drill (#78). I’ve tried .016” (#77), but don’t get the results I like. Over sizing will make it easier to start, but I’ve found I get rich mixture...

A trick I have found that if you don’t have a spring puller, a length of rope can be used. You can get more leverage and less chance of it slipping. Also, non OEM belts can be the same length, but will have a different angle.

Don’t be red faced, you’re not the first nor will be the last, to forget that an engine needs an appropriate amount of fuel to run properly. Every tech on this site has pulled their arm off trying to start an engine with no fuel in the tank.

Don’t over size it, will make it too rich. Just clean.

Cleaning the carb is useless if you did not set the float level properly. A float set a fraction low will cause surging everytime .
