Just wash the filter in hot soapy dish liquid and re-use.

The gasket is made that way, so it can be used fine on either side/direction. Under the gasket/carb, is usually a channel that leads to the impulse passage.

I don't think that they make a bigger grommet. Taryl at the EXPO is great, I used to go every year.

I would say that the carb spray caused the lack of lubrication.

Try buffing out the damage on the cylinder wall, it is usually just pasted on aluminum, then all you would need is another piston. If you have to go oversize, the prices go up pretty quick.

Time to cut your losses. Carb cleaner can be a killer.

You likely have the style carb that has a jet that easly falls out, and makes it run extremely rich. Look for that jet, and re-install it. Put up the engine's model numbers for more help.

It is running lean, if not from the carb, it could be fuel starved from a cracked fuel line, clogged fuel filter, a leaky intake manifold, or blown seal.

Take off the front drum housing and take a peek. Looks like this...

The clutch is stuck to the drum, could be just rusted up, or a spring broke.

take out the plug and turn the engine over, see if your plug is oily. Yes, you need to do the exhaust valve correctly.

Likely the guy that installed the new flywheel didn't torque the nut down enough, and it ran fine when he tested it and sheared when he shut it down.

Was this a Stihl dealer?

Put up the engine's model and spec. numbers, so we can see what type of ignition is on it.

Take it back, they own the problem. They may have improperly tightened it down at the shop, and they should take care of it.

I would say that you may have a blown seal, or some other air leak. So a leakdown test would be something to think about.

I had a kohler command once that gave low voltage, had been back to the shop several times, gave low readings like that. Pulled the flywheel, and ALL of the magnets were loose and stuck to the stator. How/why it put out any voltage I'll never know.

Take the carb off and the cover with the 4 screws, you may just have a loose welch plug.

The lessening gap is caused by heat warping the block and the valve seat area is coming back slightly. You need to remove the valves and grind the stems a hair until they are back in spec, or the heat/warping will just accelerate. I wouldn't worry about lapping or anything like that, as it...

On those starters, it used to be that a new solenoid costs the same as a new starter with a solenoid. But that was 10 years or so back.

Have you re-checked the key? Why did you replace the flywheel to begin with?

Yeah, I have tried making a couple of youtube videos on removing 2 cycle clutches and flywheels. It is a lot easier than trying to type all of that out.

Yeah, I wish that I had youtube and a digital camera when I was young, it would have helped a lot. Of course the other trappings of the internet would have likely been too distracting.

As said before. Take off the valve cover and take a peek, likely a pushrod dropped out or the like.

Does this go away if you partially choke it?

Are you sure? .015 and .020 still seems too high for a flathead, let alone an OHV. I am thinking like maybe .004 and .006 or so.

I am not familiar with the engine. What are the recommended valve gaps?

Check your oil level, and see if the oil smells like gas.

Is the plug wet when you remove it? Does any come out when you pull the rope quickly?
